Astanga Yoga

 

Ashtanga means “eight limbs” or steps and is divided into three disciplines. First is self restraints or physical practices including practice of postures or asanas and pranayama. The second is antaranga-sadhana or emotional and mental discipline and the third is antaratma sadhana which is the successful quest of the soul through one pointedness of the mind and deep meditation. Patanjali said “the practice of yoga destroys the impurities of the body and mind”.
